Talk: Jenny Stodola on Coronaviruses

Jenny studied biochemistry at the University of Guelph (Guelph, Ontario, Canada) before continuing her Masters studies in virology and immunology at the Institut Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS) - Institut Armand-Frappier (Laval, Quebec, Canada). Her thesis research was related to determining which proteins were essential in the transmission of a coronavirus called Human Coronavirus OC43 (HCoV-OC43). HCoV-OC43 is in the same viral family as COVID-19, however it only causes the common cold. Jenny hopes to help clarify what COVID-19 actually is and it's impact on us. Currently, Jenny works as an Instructional Designer and Educational Developer for the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada helping professors create engaging online courses. She also volunteers extensively as Chair of the Royal Commonwealth Society of Canada.
Talk: Samin Khan on AI and COVID-19

Samin Khan is a social impact artificial intelligence developer and researcher. He was the 2018 world champion of the ‘Olympics of Technology’ - Microsoft’s Imagine Cup, which is a technology & innovation competition with over 40 000 competing teams worldwide. Samin is currently the founder and CTO of Animo, a start-up that measures and predicts mental health through the analysis of language use. Samin also conducts research for the Vector Institute & University of Toronto on the intersections of mental health and artificial intelligence. Recently, he’s pivoted interests towards understanding how the discussion around COVID-19 and social isolation are impacting mental health and productivity.

On this closing call, we'll conclude the hackathon, announce the winners, and share some ways for everyone to continue working on their hacks to help fight the pandemic with some of our partners and sponsors.
